'a WILD life'
A wild experience in the magical forests & lakes of sweden

Running between May to September

Duration: 7 to 10 days (depending on the team, needs, objectives)

After catching the train from Stockholm to Gnesta we immerse ourselves in the Wild, stripping back to the bare essentials to spend three days learning to live in the environment around us.

We’ll build our own shelters, learn to forage, cook all our healthy, wholesome meals on the fire and have some fun in the surrounding lakes. We’ll learn native walking, observe the wildlife and prepare ourselves for a wilderness journey.

Part two of 'A Wild Life' sees us head out on an adventure into the wild. Using all the skills we’ve learned through the first three days we’ll find food on route, make our own temporary shelters, work as a team with the environment around us, and we’ll finish with a canoe journey along the lake that enables us to look back on the land we’ve become part of.

WILD IN THE PEAKS WITH
THE AMERICAN SCHOOL IN LONDON

We’ve been working with The American School in London for 3 years, designing and delivering a bespoke Wild Adventure for thirty year 6 students in May 2022, 2023, and again in 2024.

This unique adventure runs over 4 days and 3 nights (including 2 nights camping) in The Peak District National Park. For the first time in 2024 this adventure is being run as a John Muir Discoverer Award.

This adventure involves our 'base camp model' that while being based in an inspiring and remote outdoor centre (sole use), also includes some incredible hiking and an over-night camp at a National Trust campsite.

Working together in small teams, the students have the opportunity to explore the Park, and the following themes and activities together...(in line with their social studies curriculum):

SUSTAINABILITY: Traveling by coach and by foot only, considering land-use, responsible and conscious choices when it comes to food, wellbeing, and how we impact the environment (leave no trace)

CONSERVATION: Spending time with The Peak District National Park volunteer service, actively contributing to conservation of the land they are exploring

TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP: Camp-craft, cooking and eating together in the wild, exploring roles and responsibilities for how they can work as a team, lead and support each other through practical 'real-life' scenarios

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY + GROWTH: Understanding how to keep themselves safe and well in new environments within the context of a wild environment.

PLAY: Nature facilitation/connection and play, treasure hunts, games, enjoying being somewhere the students can express themselves by running, playing, climbing and exploring

MINDFULNESS: Awareness of our senses, morning yoga, wild swimming, gratitudes and journaling
